About Memorial Hall Arts & Leisure Company
Registered Charity No.1089233
The Memorial Hall Arts & Leisure Company is a charitable company.
The Company’s sole remit is – to administer and maintain the provision of the facilities at the Memorial Hall for the use by, and benefit, of the local community.
The Company leases the building from the owners – Joint Parishes of Freshwater and Totland.
Historically the building, built by public subscription, circa 1900, as a Drill Hall was in the early 1960’s purchased jointly by the parishes of Freshwater and Totland as a community facility for the two communities.
This joint Parish commitment to the Memorial Hall continues and Parish Councillors from both Parishes serve on the Management Committee.
A major upgrade to facilities at the millennium, Arts Lottery grant assisted, enabled the provision of the Tennyson suite, and a continual programme of refurbishment and renewal is ongoing. The Hall applies for grant funding awards where appropriate.
The Hall is basically run as a not-for-profit establishment, any credit balances being historically placed in reserves and utilised for Hall maintenance.
